About this Virtual Run: “When she spoke, people listened.” -Chief Justice John Roberts
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States in 1993 and was confirmed by the Senate with a nearly unanimous vote. As a judge, she favored caution, moderation, and restraint, while being a powerful voice in favor of gender equality and civil rights. At 87 years of age, Ginsburg passed away in her home on September 18, 2020 and laid in state in the Capitol on September 25. She was the first woman and second Supreme Court Justice to have this honor.
Please join us in honoring the life and legacy of Justice Ginsburg by participating in the Notorious RBG virtual race to benefit one of her favorite charities. Choose ANY distance and run or walk anytime and anywhere you want to support the cause. All participants will receive an elegant 4″ picture frame medal featuring a 3D molded sculpting of RBG’s official Supreme Court Justice portrait on a blue and red background. The back of the medal includes a folding kickstand, giving you the option to remove the Velcro ribbon and display the picture frame anywhere.
NEW (beta): In addition to our usual 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon distance options, we are offering a new “Custom Challenge” distance for this event as well. Participants who choose this option will be able to select ANY distance: 1 mile, 6.23 miles, 26.2 miles, 50k, 100,000 steps – whatever distance you desire! You can then work toward your goal by uploading your results (daily or all at once) on your My Results page. All Custom Challenge participant results will be displayed in a new section on our Event Results page as well.
Matching Shirts: Add a matching You Can’t Spell Truth Without Ruth shirt to your registration for an additional $20 ($18 for Club VS Members). Shirts are available in adult sizes S-XXL, in Gravel Gray:
About the Charity: Long before she became known as the “Notorious RBG,” Ginsburg was an excellent student. The daughter of an immigrant father, Ginsburg credited her luck to growing up in America where she had the chance to go to school and succeed. But around the world, forces like war, poverty and discrimination prevent more than 130 million girls from getting an education. Malala Fund, co-founded by Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, advocates for girls’ access to free, safe and quality education. Malala Fund works in regions where the most girls miss out on secondary education. Their priority countries are Afghanistan, Brazil, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey, and Ethiopia.
A portion of the proceeds from this virtual race (at least $5 from each registration) will be donated to the Malala Fund. For more information or to make a direct contribution, please visit malala.org/donate.
